Integrating Geo-spatial Data into Olap Systems Using a Set-based Quad-tree Representation

چکیده

During the last few years, On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) has emerged as a valuable tool for the analysis, navigation and reporting of hierarchically organized data from data warehouses. It particularly gained popularity as a building block of modern decision-support systems. With the use of geographical information systems in conjunction with OLAP, the need for storing spatial data and processing queries based on it becomes an important issue since traditional OLAP data representation, which is mostly based on the starand/or snowflake model, is not optimized for this kind of data. Quad-trees offer an efficient data structure for indexing geographical data and are widely used. This paper presents a set-based data structure for the representation of quad-tree based search structures as an integral dimension of data warehouses for OLAP. OLAP engines based on this set-based data representation use sets and vectors only and integrate easily with geo-spatial information.
